Church History

A Timeline of the Sacred Past

In the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son, Who established His Church during His earthly ministry. Every component of the church was completed prior to His death with the last being the institution of the Lord's Supper. We even see worship, prayer and a business meeting before Pentecost.

In the Introduction to Church History, we will examine how the Greek, Roman and Jewish cultures each had an important role to play in making the scriptures available to the world and spreading the gospel quickly throughout the known world.  We will then look at the early church, both in the gospels and the book of Acts, to see how church leadership was established.  We will take note of how persecution aided in the rapid spread of the gospel.  Also of interest is how many heresies developed during the second and third centuries--and how they are still evident in today’s cults.

Our sermon series on the book of Acts of the Apostles is an excellent companion study to this series.
