Church History

A Timeline of the Sacred Past

Section One:  The First Century

In the fullness of time God sent forth His Son, and during His ministry our Lord built His Church. Every component of the church was completed prior to His death. The last being the institution of the Lord's Supper. We even see a worship, prayer and business meeting before Pentecost.

A close look at this primitive period of time, it was a challenge compared to many standards we presently experience in the days in which we live. The Introduction to Church History will indicate the importance of how three different cultures had a great impact upon the spread of the gospel. Without actually giving much thought concerning this period of world history, we might think it to be of little significance.  However, as we take time to open the scriptures and add our knowledge of secular history, we can determine the great influence of these three main cultures of that time period. We will see both their positive and negative aspects, how they influenced the spread of the gospel throughout Israel and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.

Our Lord Jesus Christ challenged the eleven remaining Apostles in Matthew 28:18-20, when He said, “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."  Therefore, these eleven Apostles with and through faith in their risen and glorified Lord, and in obedience to His command set forth to carry the gospel message, and proclaim their faith to others. We now have the blessing of the Written Word of God, and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because of their faithfulness to His Commands.

Through this study we will determine the impact of the Greek culture, the impact of the Roman Culture, and the impact of the Jewish Culture.  - The Early Persecution of Church by Jews - The Apostolic Foundation with Christ their Cornerstone - The Apostolic Mission and Responsibilities - The Acts of the Apostles - Peter Preaching to the Gentiles at Antioch - The Transition of the Gospel from Jew to Gentile -  The Creation of the Eldership - The Need for the Office of Deacons - The Church's Structure and Order - And How the Gospel Spread in Christendom through 100 AD.

A companion study of The Book of Acts will enlighten you how the apostles were challenged and instructed in their responsibilities, and how the early church spread like wild fire as persecution and other cultural influences took effect. You will be blessed as you take time to listen and learn how the church of our Lord Jesus Christ came into existence, and how it is still as relevant today.
